Hydrogen trains Could put the UK Government's 'Green Plan' on Track
The government’s 10-point green plan includes an ambitious proposal to ban petrol and diesel vehicle sales by 2030, as well as a promised boost to hydrogen production in the UK.
With decarbonising transport a high priority and a major investment in hydrogen on the cards, it makes sense to look at how these two ambitions can be combined. Batteries may still be the most efficient way of powering electric vehicles and vans, but for heavy transport, such as trains, hydrogen has some major advantages.

Atlantis Viewpoint
The urgency of transitioning from petrol and diesel vehicles to cleaner alternatives has never been so relevant for our governments. It is good to see that the UK government plans to invest in hydrogen powered trains to replace the 57 % of the remaining diesel fuelled trains, which generate a big carbon footprint each day. Replacing these for hydrogen or electric trains is a great step forward to stop pollution coming from public transportation.
But where will all of this hydrogen be coming from?
At Atlantis we know the solution is green Hydrogen, created from true clean energy sources such as solar or wind instead of fossil fuels. Hydrogen has the potential to provide clean power, and its only by-product is water. So, we need governments to adopt this source of hydrogen to fuel the future of manufacturing, transport and other industries. Let us take the right direction for our society and our planet! Let us aim for true clean energy!
