China's wind-power capacity nearly tripled in 2020
The construction of new wind and solar power plants in China more than doubled in 2020 since the previous year, government data showed.
China, the world’s biggest producer of greenhouse gas, added 71.67 gigawatts (GW) of wind power capacity last year, nearly triple the 2019 level, according to data released by the National Energy Administration (NEA).
The figure is ahead of the 60.4 GW of new wind capacity added globally in 2019, according to data from the Global Wind Energy Council.
New solar power capacity also rebounded in 2020 to 48.2 GW after falling in 2018 and 2019, the data showed, beating forecasts of 40 GW.
It comes as China had pledged to increase the share of non-fossil fuels in its energy consumption to 15 per cent by 2020 from 6.8 per cent in 2005. President Xi Jinping said this figure would rise to 25 per cent by 2030.

China’s wind-power capacity nearly tripled in 2020
The spectacular growth of renewables in China during 2020 demonstrates the country's commitment to reduce it's greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions. As China has the largest producer of GHG emissions of any country in the world, it has along way to go but this is a good step forward.
Over the past year, the Asian Giant added more than 70 GW of wind energy, nearly triple the 2019 level, according to government data. New solar power capacity also rebounded in 2020 after falling in 2018 and 2019, the data shows.
At Atlantis we celebrate China's commitment to achieve objectives regarding the Paris Agreement through the use of #TrueCleanEnergy. We hope this transition continues over the coming years!
